SAB Imports, also known as Save A Bug was established in 1986 by SteveTims and Mike Babel. In 1991 a new partnership was founded when Luis Santin came on board. Luis, a long time VW expert played a large role in the now 25 years of the company. Luis started his Volkswagen career at SIR in the late 70’s. SIR was one of the largest VW engine remanufacturers on the west coast. There he mastered his technique in engine rebuilding. He later moved to Import Motor exchange where he learned the rest of the Volkswagen anatomy, mastering not only type 1 but type 2, 3 and 4 as well as the water boxers and water cooled to date. Along the way Luis has built several cars, personal and friends. A true VW aficionado Luis is knowledgeable of all things VW including the vintage and cal-look scene, from bumpers to tailpipes. Along with the company Luis keeps learning and constantly striving to keep the Volkswagen dream alive.
SAB Imports has long been a staple in the Volkswagen community here in riverside. Although the name SAB Imports might seem a bit unfamiliar. Everybody has known us for the past 25 years as Save a Bug. In 1999 Volkswagen of America sued Save a Bug for copyright infringement connected to the word “Bug”. Being a small shop it was difficult to meet the high price tag of using the word in our name so we abbreviated to SAB. We are still going strong in all aspects of VW air and water-cooled, as well as European and Japanese automotive parts and service. We have the knowledge and technology to service the latest Vws on the market, yet do what we love most, restoring vintage Volkswagens. Here at SAB Imports we can help you save your bug, bus, karmanghia, type 3 and even Vanagons, Jettas and New Beetles. Whatever your passion may be from a 1939 to a 2011 Volkswagen, we have you covered. From our VW family to yours, we welcome you come visit our showroom.
